NUS Alumni Relations
Introduction
As we start another year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the progress we have made. 2024 was a time of strategic renewal for NUS Alumni Relations, with the launch of new initiatives and programmes designed to deepen our engagement with alumni and meet the diverse needs and interests of our community.
A key highlight of the year was the launch of our NUS Innovation Forum, a new global platform that connects NUS alumni and thought leaders, sparking substantive dialogue around trending and critical issues in innovation. The initiative is aligned not only with the growing impact the NUS community is making around the world, but the growing geographical spread of our alumni base.
Closer to home, we continued to engage alumni via our NUS Be A-HEAD seminar series for young professionals. We also launched Intellectual Insights, exploring the impact and ethics of artificial intelligence in our first few events of the series. On a lighter note, we hosted several lifestyle events (heritage walks, whisky tastings, and tea appreciation, among others!) to bring alumni together and learn something new.
Signature events such as Commencement and NUS Homecoming remained key staples of the calendar, highlighting both our newest members of the alumni family, as well as the enduring bonds that bring them back for reunion each year.
With NUS turning 120 in 2025, I look forward to another exciting year ahead. We'll be offering more opportunities to connect and contribute, so please do join us at our upcoming events!
Happy New Year!

Highlights
NUS Innovation Forum
In May we launched the NUS Innovation Forum, or NIF, a new global initiative that connects NUS alumni with peers, academic leaders, and global thought influencers. The forum is designed to foster insightful dialogue, enhance connections within the university, and promote international collaboration.
More than just a conference, NIF is a destination event that offers a vibrant community for alumni to exchange ideas, influence innovation, and shape the future. Hosted in dynamic cities around the world, the forum is a journey toward understanding and impacting our interconnected world.
After successful NIFs in Manila, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Suzhou, we are excited to bring the event to more cities in 2025!

Commencement
In July, we welcomed close to 16,000 new members into the NUS alumni family over the course of 31 Commencement ceremonies.
To celebrate the occasion, we brought back our popular photo booth, styled after The AlumNUS magazine. The booth gave the new alumni and their families the chance to strike a pose as cover stars.
NUS Homecoming 2024
Alumni Reunion@BTC
In October, we hosted a reunion at our Bukit Timah Campus, bringing together 100 alumni, staff, and students.
In addition to a networking lunch, participants enjoyed an engaging panel discussion, titled "How Can Singapore Navigate the Continuing Storms of Geopolitical Rivalry?"
During the session, esteemed experts Dr Selina Ho (Arts & Social Sciences '94), Mr Kishore Mahbubani (Arts & Social Sciences '71), Prof Khong Yuen Foong, Prof Danny Quah, and moderator Prof Tan Tai Yong (Arts & Social Sciences '86, MA '89) discussed rising geopolitical tensions and the pivotal roles Singapore can play.
Celebrating Historic Ties
In October, NUS strengthened its long-standing relationship with Universiti Malaya (UM) through a series of collaborative events celebrating the two universities' academic and social ties.
A highlight was the inaugural UM-NUS Joint Workshop on Biomedical Engineering 2024, held at the NUS Kent Ridge campus. Organised by the NUS Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthTech) and supported by NUS Alumni Relations, the event brought together researchers and educators to discuss advancements in biomedical engineering and healthcare technology.
Later that evening, NUS hosted the UM-NUS Gala Dinner at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, attended by key figures including NUS Chancellor, His Excellency President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and UM Chancellor, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the Sultan of the state of Perak and Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.
In parallel, the 53rd UM-NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament was held with over 100 golfers from both universities participating in the social and competitive games. The NUS team emerged victorious, winning the Tunku Chancellor Trophy for the first time since 2019.
